The audio and video quality of SVCD is a bit better than VCD 2.0 and not as good as DVD with video images twice as sharp as the VCD standard . The increased resolution, 480x576 for PAL and 480x480 for NTSC, permits interlaced video signals which produce smoother motion.

SVCD supports 16:9 wide screen image aspect ratioand offers extensive support for subtitling, and karaoke lyrics plus up to four subtitling channels for different languages. Because the subtitles are on an independent track which overlays the video image in real time they can be turned on and off. Typical playing time for a high quality, high resolution SVCD disc is in the area of 35 to 45 minutes and up to 70 minutes at lower quality.

Additionall SVCD features:
  • HTML style hyperlinks
  • Still images 480x576 or 704x576 for PAL, 480x480 or 704x480 for NTSC.
  • Play lists
  • Slide Shows
  • Hierarchal nested menus
  • Chapters
