Windows Media conversion or playback problems
These sorts of problems seem to be a particularly prevalent with movies that were created in Windows Movie maker version 1. You can upgrade to the new version free from the Windows Update site. The source file may have a damaged index or perhaps you don't have the codec that was used to create your source movie. If the index is at fault (usually results in incomplete file conversion) you can re-index the source file with Microsoft's Windows Media File Editor that comes with the Media Encoder. To index a Windows Media file use the Windows Media File Editor
If the preview panel is blank you'll need to download the correct Windows Media codec for your source file.
If the preview displays and the file can be played, from the main File menu select Save and Index or Save As and Index.
If the codec is at fault you can download the latest codecs for Microsoft at the below URL: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp For your convenience, we have stored the files on our server as well. Windows Media 9 Series Codecs Installation Package
